Could someone help me as I do not have access to MyHeritage. I am trying to contact Barbara Gałązka who I have been told is indicated in MyHeritage as a descendant of Jan Baldyga and Maryanna Koziatek. Jan was born in about 1870 in Zalas, Mazowieckie and married Maryanna in Brodowe Laki Parish on 10 Sep 1899. Maryanna was also born about 1870 in Brodowe Laki Parish. Jan was my grandfather's older brother.

Hello. I do not have an account on My Heritage, but I can say that the village of Zalas belonged to the parish of Myszyniec (books were destroyed). Since 1884 it became part of the parish of Łyse (books have survived), in 1903 an independent parish was created in Zalas (books exist). Waldemar

Thank you to those who have replied to this thread. I now have what I believe is Barbara's email address and, if I remember to do so, I will update you at some future date as to any success that I have in contacting her.
Thank you again,
Bob

I have a lead on someone who may be a brother to my great Grandfather Piotr Baldyga who died on 26 September 1901 in Poscien (Chorzele Parish 140/1901). Piotr's wife and son, my grandfather, were both born in Zalas and I assume that Piotr, born in 1831, was also born there. The potential brother is Antoni Baldyga who was born in Zalas in 1822.
In following up on this lead, I am asking if anyone could provide or get scanned into Geneteka the text of two death records from Turośl Parish, Podlaskie. The records are 1900/22 and 1893/82. They are listed in Geneteka but the records themselves have not yet been scanned.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I am a little unfamiliar with the site requirements and struggle with the language barriers as I speak only two languages: English and Bad English. However, I will adhere to this requirement in the future. Thank you for the reminder.

Robert,
This is the land of my ancestors and I have done a lot of research here. It is a genealogical tragedy that the Myszyniec parish records were destroyed and only exist from 1896, 1900, 1902. and more.. Not a lot of facts can be determined.
From the documents found we can establish that Piotr Bałdyga and Ewa nee Lis lived in the village of Zalas, Myszyniec parish. Their children were born there, Marianna-b. 1863, Jan -b 1871 and your great-grandfather. Later they moved to the village of Poścień in the parish of Chorzele. Peter died there. His parents' names are not given in the document, only his approximate age of 70, meaning he was born around 1831.I came across a trace of your Peter. A list of recruits in the Lomza Governorate compiled in 1862 gives three men born in Zalas village in those years. One of them is your great-grandfather. https://sites.google.com/view/polishgen ... on-indeksy
records on line https://poczekalnia.genealodzy.pl/pliki ... 9Bl_gmina/
number 763 Piotr Bałdyga b. September 1 1833 Zalas son of Walenty , married , son 4 months. Number 765 Piotr b. April 31` 1835 son of Paweł, married 2 children 5 age and 1 age, Number 784 Piotr b. January 15 1832 Zalas, son of Mikołaj , married 5 children: 7 age, 5, 3 and twins 1 age.
////763 Piotr Bałdyga son of Walenty died in 1907 in Zalas https://metryki.genealodzy.pl/metryka.p ... =414&y=129

Waldemar:
Your list of three potential Piotr Baldyga names that could be my great grandfather is exciting. Also on that page is another Baldygo, Marcin, age 20. This looks like he is also the son of Walenty and Rozalia nee Baldyga and the brother of Piotr. There is so much more information on those pages and I will have my hands full translating those pages for the near future. Also, there are many more Baldyga names on pages 79 through 83. I will try to see if I can establish any family structure to these names.

You mentioned the term "recruits" and I saw the term "census" translated from one of the record headings. I know that the Russian Army made heavy use of conscripts in those years so I assume that this is a census taken in order to identify potential Army conscripts. Can you confirm that this is the purpose of this census?

Finally, I have received a communication in Ancestry.com of a distant relative (4th through 6th cousin) identified through our matching DNA results. His oldest identified relative is Antoni Baldyga who was born in Zalas about 1822. Antoni's death record is in Turosl Parish 1900/22. His wife was Jadwiga nee Szymanska, he was the son of Tomasz and died in Wanacja, Podlaskie. The Geneteka record is not available as it has not yet been scanned. I have not yet been able to make any connection to my family but I suspect that he is a brother to Piotr.

Once again I thank you for your information as it provides valuable information with which to continue my search.

Bob

Yes , you wrote well. These are potential soldiers of the tsarist army.
Peter , son Walenty died in Zalas so his candidacy is eliminated. I would also eliminate Peter son Nicholas, his children died in the village of Zalas. My candidate is Piotr son of Pawel. Marianna's age is correct here.

Waldemar:
While I remember viewing the Lomza Governate Census Line 784 in the past, I am currently unable to access the census. I have tried to use the couple of that URLs that you provided above but I cannot get through to the source document. Could you please provide the access URL to get to this census. Also, I am convinced from the information in your response above that the person listed in line 784 is my great grandfather Piotr. As a result, you have provided me with another generation in my search, his father Mikolaj.
I am still in the hunt for any Polish documents that may refer to my grandfather Jozef, born about 1881 to 1883 in Zalas. I will keep searching for him.
Thank you,
Robert (Bob) Baldygo
