Dear forum,
I am in need of your help. I am looking for the birth and family of Michal/Michael Kucharski. After the November Uprising 1830/31 he fled to Leip/Lipowo near Osterode/Ostróda in East Prussia. There he married in 1835 his wife Victoria Sadlowska adopted Myszkiewska. According to the marriage certificate he was from "Kowala in Polen (Poland)" and born around 1809. His father's name was Valentin and already dead. His death certificate from 1879 ordered by his son, states he was born 1795 and born "auf (!) Podolien im Königreich Polen (upon Podolia in the Kingdom Poland)".
In the parish Kowal near Wloclawek (ca. 145km distance) I found a Walenty Kucharski and his wife Elzbieta Szychowska living in Debniaki (4km to Kowal). They got two children in 1811 and 1814, Josefa and Antoni. Walenty died in 1815. His wife remarried in 1817 in Smilowice to Bartolomej Klimczak. Thus, I think this might be the correct family. Unfortunately, I could not find Michals birth yet.
Does anybody have some information or could help me in any way?
Thank you very much in advance!
Best regards from Germany
Tim Walter

Tim, show us the document, you've described it. In romancatholic church in XIX century it was rather not possible, that man born in 1795 was married and had a child (in legal marriage) in 1809 (in the age of 14).
15th August is the Day of Polish Soldier, so the subject of finding the past of Michał Kucharski, the veteran of the November Uprising will be just on time. Smile

There is a misunderstanding. Both possible birth dates concern Michal Kucharski, not his father Valentin/Walenty. Michal's first child was born in 1836 just after the marriage in 1835. Michal was born in either 1809 or 1795. In 1835, the priest wrote he was 26 years old (-> 1809). When he died in 1879, the official wrote he was 84 years old, according to Michal's son (->1795). I rather trust the information in the marriage certificate, but found no proof yet.
I didn't know of the Day of the Polish Soldier - but surely he was fighting in the revolution!

Polish Kingdom had a regular army, which fought in 1830-31 war against Russian Empire (during the November Uprising). Tim, do you know the name of Your Michał Kucharski"s regiment (of Polish Kingdom Army)? I guess, that lists of Polish soldiers catched in 1831 and isolated in Prussia are in Preussich archives.

Older than 1810 baptism register volumes of Kowal parish are in the archive of Włocławek Diocese in Włocławek.
Kowala (oficially:Kowala-Stępocina) is the village with a parish in nowadays Mazovian voivodship. Parish baptism register volumes (from 1798) are in bureau of this parish. In State Archive in Radom they have Kowala birth register books of the 1810-25 period (scans are available online: https://szukajwarchiwach.pl/search?q=XD ... 20XARCH:58 ).
In todays Mazovian Voivodship there is also a village - Kowala-Duszocina, which has a parish in Wolanów. In State Archive in Radom they have Wolanów birth register books of the 1810-25 period (scans are available online:
https://szukajwarchiwach.pl/search?q=XD ... 20XARCH:58 ).

In Polish Kingdom there was also Kowale parish (todays Kowale Pańskie in Wielkopolska Voivodship). Parish baptism register volumes (from 1798) are in the archive of Włocławek Diocese in Włocławek. There were also a few villages or settlements named Kowale more.

Unfortunately, I do not know in which regiment Michal fought. It is just a story that is told within the family. Plus the priest of Leip(Lipowo) stated that he lived there since 1831.
It is a good idea to look for Prussian list about captured Polish soldiers. Hopefully, I will find some.

Thank you, for naming the different Kowalas. I found the possible parents in Kowal near Włocławek, but maybe there was another family in the other Kowalas as well, which I have to check. Unfortunately, I can hardly read the documents of the parish Kowal, as I can not speak or read Polish.

Tim, parish baptism register volumes were written in language of roman-catholic church: in latin language.

The more complicated are obstacles connected with Podole. Podole was the voivodship of Kingdom of Poland till 1792 year. The territory of former Podolian voivodship was not a part of Polish Kingdom in XIX century.

But in the Polish Kingdom were also a few villages named Podole. In the future I will write smth about them (if it is needed).
