Hello everyone,
One of my ancestors from Rokiciny Podhalańskie (Raba Wyzna) was called Barbara Prawnik, I got this information from the priest of Rochiny Podhalansky. I have no dates of her or her husband Jozef Dziwisz because these are most likely not written down or they are still somewhere hidden in the books that are not available on geneteka but only in the church itself.
I see online on geneteka that this surname is only mentioned like 10-20 times in the whole database and on forebears only two times?
What is the origin and meaning of this surname? |

I don't know the origin of the surname Prawnik.
The noun prawnik means lawyer in Polish language |

Giovanni,
surname Prawnik existed in Poland to 1990 year.
Currently the word “prawnik” means - someone who has knowledge of the applicable law, before was a prototype of … notary.
According to website Forebears, Ukrainian surname PRAVNYK, Russian and Belorussian surnames PRAVNIK and Polish surname PRAWNIK suggest that once in old Slavic settlements lived people with knowledge about customs, rituals and local law. Such people issued legal opinions regulating life in the settlements or regions.
This is my personal opinion.
With the best - Władysław |
