My Dear Genealodzy friends,
After having checked the Suderwa list for my relative and her husbands family in her home parish (Mejszagola) confessions list I now think it would be wise to search the confessions list for his village of residence when he married in 1860. The wife Alexandra (Dowiat) Klukowski passed away in Suderwa parish in 1867 so I am hoping to find her and her husband Jozef Klukowski and her children on this set of pages.
I don't know if ther being of noble status precludes them from such lists, but from skimming it seems that well over a thousand names are listed so I am thinking all parishioners were included.
Here is the link to the document:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1 ... at=1447100
It goes from pg 707-736 in the search window. I know this is a large list but any help in finding the Klukowski's Jozef and his wife Alexandra would be most appreciated.
Sincerely,
Hugh |

Hugh,
Do you know in which place did Alexandra die? It should be in her death record. This may help to speed up searching of this confession list.
Roman
PS. After a brief scan, I was able to find only one Klukowski family: scan #727, entry 239. Zascianek Soldnie
Kazimierz Klukowski age 22
his brothers: Jerzy (20), Michal (18 ), and Jan (14)
mother Joanna (50)
Mikolaj Giedrojc (50) |

Actually I have a couple of documents that pertain to Alexandra and her family.
She was married in Mejszagola in 1860 (This was her home parish)
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1 ... D7PF?i=678
Jozef and her had a son, Jozef baptized in Suderwa in 1861.
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1 ... at=1552054
She passed away in 1867 in Suderwa parish. (this document should list village). #48
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1 ... Z-3?mode=g
In theory these could help with finding a village however I know from history 1863-64 was a tumultuous period for this region with the January Uprising being fought.
Maybe neighboring villages are the place to look?

Hugh, The two first links do not work, could you correct it?
The death certificate states that she passed away from tuberculosis in a village Sołdenia, leaving behind a widowed husband Józef and three children - Józef, Piotr and Marianna.
In the confession list I was able to notice only one similar place - the above mentioned Zaścianek Sołdnie. A map of this region: http://www.mapywig.org/m/WIG_maps/serie ... 285041.jpg
displays three closely located places with similar names: Sołdenia, Sołdenia Górna, and folwark Sołdenia Dolna.
For whatever reason, your family does not seem to be listed, but there is another Klukowski family living in the place with a similar name. Perhaps they are related?
Best,
Roman |

Hi Hugh,
It seems that your Józef appears in both of these lists. In 1861, he is listed alone, as nobleman (dvorianin) Józef Klukowski age 28, in the village Sołdnie (slide 929, entry 35/159)
In 1862, a whole family appears (slide 910, family group 143):
Józef Klukowski age 35
his wife Aleksandra 30
son Józef 2
Aniela Dowiatowa 56 (perhaps his mother in law?)
servant Marcin Sobolewski 18
Hope this is what you were trying to find.
Best,
Roman |

Roman,
This is fantastic news! It is indeed the family, and Aniela Dowiatowa is the former Aniela Romanowska! This proves that she was still alive in 1862 and that she apparently moved in with her youngest daughter.
I have been tracing the Dowiat family across Lithuania with various documents. Here is all I have to show you what I mean.
1. On 22 January 1821 Bartlomiej Dowiat Married Aniela Romanowska in Zejmy RCC.
2. 15 Dec 1821 Maryanna Dowiat born Swolkenie, Zejmy parish.
3. 26 Feb 1825 Alexander Dowiat born Swolkenie, Zejmy parish.
4. 16 May 1827 Katarzyna Dowiat born Swolkenie, Zejmy parish.
5. 20 Jun 1828 Alexander Dowiat dies Swolkenie, Zejmy parish.
6. 7 Sep 1828 Petronela Dowiat born Swolkenie, Zejmy parish.
7. 18 Jan 1831 Nikodem Dowiat born Mejszagola village/parish.
8. 7 Aug 1832 Petronela Dowiat dies Mejszagola village/parish.
9. 4 June 1833 Julia Dowiat born Mejszagola village/parish.
10. 21 Aug 1835 Johanna Dowiat born Zablocie, Mejszagola parish.
11. 24 Feb 1838 Twins Wiktoria & Alexandra Dowiat born Zablocie, Mejs. par.
12. 14 Jun 1839 Bartlomiej Dowiat dies in Mejszagola.
13. 18 Dec 1839 Wiktoria Dowiat dies in Mejszagola.
14. 29 Jun 1840 Johanna Dowiat dies in Mejszagola.
15. 1840 Parish census list the family of Widowed Aniela Dowiatowa
http://genealogia.lt/pdfs/Spis%20parafi ... 40%20r.pdf
*Pg. 26 #514-517 Aniela and her daughters Maryanna, Julia(nna), and Alexandra.
*Pg. 25 #549 Nikodem Dowiat.
16. Sometime between 1840 census and 1844 Maryanna Dowiat marries in Mejszagola Barnaba Mieczkowski (record not found).
17. 8 Sep 1844 Stanislaw Mieczkowski born in Zablocie, Mejszagola parish.
18. 1 Aug 1845 Stanislaw Mieczkowski dies in Zablocie.
19. 20 Sep 1846 Tekla Mieczkowska born in Mejszagola parish.
20. Sometime between 1846 and 1851 Barnaba Mieczkowski dies.
21. 25 Feb 1851 Widow Maryanna Mieczkowska marries widower Cezary Gieczewski in Mejszagola.
You have helped fill in much the rest or at least where the family was living in part in 1862.
The son Nikodem as I said before was exiled to Siberia for taking part in rebellion against Czarist authorities. Where he was living before rebellion is unknown (although he wasnt sighted on Mejszagola confessions list).
He was also listed as unmarried when exiled and not having children.
So you can see how much I have put into tracking family, and thank you for playing such a big part in finding them.
Where the family went between 1862 and 1867 remains to be seen.

Hugh,
The death record for Aleksandra mentions two other children: Piotr and Marianna. Were you able to locate their birth records? Since Józef was the eldest, the other two must have been born 1862-67. That may be another hint in tracing the family story.

Roman,
When I looked through the year you mentioned nothing came up. They even have the Suderwa births on this website and there is no mention of a Piotr or Marianna.
I am guessing that they might live in a nearby parish,it seems Jozef's families home parish was actually somewhere else given the low number of Klukowski's that lived in Suderwa.

Thank you both so much for your examining these parish lists. They certainly help shed some light on the issue of following the movements of the family. So I now know for certain to search for Aniela Dowiatowa's death from 1862 and forward and it seems unlikely she would have gotten remarried after being well into he 50's (The confessions list says she was 58 in 1862, more likely she was older given she married in 1821).
Whether since her daughter Aleksandra died in 1867 and her son Nikodem was exiled after the failed January rising of 1863-64. It seems very likely she might have lived with her eldest daughter Marianna who was from the evidence married to her 2nd husband Cezary at this point. Her daughter Julia (my direct ancestor) is also a possibility she and her husband Konstanty Szymkiewicz lived in the Szyrwinty parish to the northwest.
So now the thing to do is search the registers in those areas first, and thanks to the help i have received here that is much easier thing to do.
Warm regards,
Hugh |
