Crying or Very sad

Przepraszam - używam komputera do tłumaczenia z angielskiego. Mam nadzieję, że to ma sens!

Pozdrawiam
Stan

According Geografic dictionary of Polish Kingdom (my own translation Smile) Łohiszyn was a parochia from XVIII century to 1864 and after 1910. Between 1864 and 1910 it was a parochia in Pińsk for Łohiszyn. http://dir.icm.edu.pl/Slownik_geograficzny/Tom_V/682 what period are interested in ?
All the best

Arek - Thank your for the information! I would like to find records for 1880s, 1890s, when my great-grandparents got married, and had children (my grandfather was born 1885).

The Minsk archives has the years 1859-1861, 1864, 1912, 1914 for Lohiszyn. But do you think the years 1880 -1900 were with Pinsk?
--Familysearch.org has microfilm for Pinsk for this period. I looked at some, but did not find records for my family (Huzarewicz) or other people from Lohiszyn. Maybe I need to look at them again.

I am grateful for your help!

Parochia in Lohiszyn was closed after uprising 1863-64 (many parochias were closed as a result of russians represions).
Pinsk became official parochia for people from Lohiszyn but maybe other churches were situated closer than Pinsk and people used them. We need to find so called schematism for dioecesia to find out what churches were close to Lohiszyn

I had to read that article in an English translation, but it says Lohiszyn parishioners worshiped in Pinsk for a few years. I will order more microfilm for Pinsk, and look for my name. The Russian language records do spell my name with "G" - Гузаревич.

Arek - one interesting thing - I have a recording of my grandfather's brother, Frank, from shortly before he died in 1978. He talked about life in Lohiszyn under the Czar, and said they didn't have a Polish church to attend. I thought that sounded strange, but now I understand!

Pińsk is a good direction. Look at the schema of Catolic Church 1900 Diocese of Mohylew. There is Pińsk Deanery which consisted with only 3 parochias (Pińsk, Dawidgródek, Lubieszów) and some chapels. Page nr 135 - http://pbc.biaman.pl/dlibra/docmetadata ... ntent=true
But Pińsk seems to be the closest parochia for Lohiszyn
Also, it could be interesting for you that some of Huzarewicz born in Nowy Dwór 20 km from Łohiszyn. There is a base of II ww victims - www.straty.pl and you can find Huzarewicz family there - http://www.straty.pl/index.php/szukaj-w-bazie

Those links, and especially the book, are helpful. Thanks!

I have a copy of baptism certificate for Uncle Frank Huzarewicz. He obtained it in 1957 to prove his age when he applied for social security in the USA. I contacted the parish that provided it in Nowa Ruda - they said they didn't have archives for Lohiszyn, but the priest, Kazimierz Bohusz, probably knew the family (Bohusz was in Lohiszyn when the church reopened). Here is a link - maybe you can view it?

It is a kind of confirmation of baptizing Franciszek Huzarewicz based on the act of knowing/ recognizing - don`t know how to translate. In XIX century people who got married but didn`t have certificate of baptism had to have witnesses to confirm their identity in front of priest or JP (justice of peace). But in this case, priest confirm the act of baptizing by himself, without witnesses. He knew dates of birth 1 march 1895 (Łahiszyn) and baptizing 20 may 1895 (Pińsk). He made it in 1957 so it is not a matter of perfect memory Smile. I think he had a list of parishioners or something like that. He was a rector in Łahiszyn 1931-1945 http://www.zieja.ovh.org/ka_26.htm
Before his death he made a donation (some private books) for the catholic seminar in Drohiczyn. http://bibliodro.pl/biblioteka/index.php/historia Maybe some information about Łahiszyn.
To the point, you got access to Pińsk metrics, so try to find original metric of Franciszek Huzarewicz and other people from the family (like act of marriage of Grzegorz Huzarewicz i Aniela Szawlińska)
Also you can contact with Mińsk Archive, Belarus here is an inventory http://archives.gov.by/index.php?id=355987 books of Łahiszyn 1701-1914

Thank you for explaining the situation with the priest Bohusz! Did it seem strange that next to Grzegorz's and Aniela's name he wrote "married spouses"? It seems unnecessary, although I've seen baptism records that indicated the mother wasn't married. Usually they just list the parents' names.

I went to the Family History Center (a Mormon Church) where I have the microfilm for 1880s Pinsk marriages. It looks like they are only for people who lived in Pinsk, there was no record for Grzegorz and Aniela; there were a lot of records but only one Huzarewicz.

I wonder if my ancestors attended the Orthodox church for a while. I know the Minsk Archives has the Orthodox records for Lohiszyn, but they are a little difficult to deal with directly. Payment is complicated, and they want details that I don't have. I can ask the Mormons to copy those records.

Can your read Russian? Here is a link to baptism records that may be for Grzegorz and Aniela - I'm not sure if that's her name in the record, it may be a Russian version of Aniela/Angela:

It is Aniela, the same letter -ie like in Juszk-ie-wicz. And information about "married spouses" or legal married spouses is typical for such acts. There was always information.about married spouses or single mother. And how about acts from Pinsk of 1890s ?

After reading your post I found samples of old Cyrillic handwriting, and found that letter "e" - you're right!

I have a picture of Grzegorz that looks quite old - his clothing looks 18th century, and he looks old already, which suggests he was born before 1861, but the picture might be later.(My grandfather visited him in 1924.) Below is a link - maybe you have an opinion? -1861 makes sense for his family, however, since people married and had children early back then. The picture of Anthony and Frank was taken in the USA around 1914.

Yes, it makes sense. But of course you need to find act of marriage of Grzegorz and Aniela, probably in Pińsk or Grzegorz act of death
